A photo of John Wayne from your site https://matineeidle.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/john-wayne1.jpg is linked in comment #1 here http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/awesome-and-then-some/.

My first guess was Marco Polo, but Googling for that led me toward Genghis Khan. However the poster here http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9012103, well, doesn’t look much like Wayne, even, but no mustache, different costume obviously.

In any event, I couldn’t find the image here on your site, or an obvious link to it in your Sep. ’09 postings. Would be interested in the movie the still was from. Would be nice if you captioned it/them (wherever it/they may be, on your site); credit too if available, since they’re being distributed.

Nice to find your blog.
Cheers

Hi. Thanks for taking a look at the ‘blog. The John Wayne/Genghis Khan image is on the following post: https://matineeidle.wordpress.com/2009/09/24/mind-your-language/. The photo is taken from The Conqueror (1956). For some reason it seems that the distributor decided to leave the ‘tache off the movie poster that you linked to: possibly Wayne grows one during the course of the film? Or possibly 1950s audiences weren’t ready for John Wayne with facial hair. Anyway, enjoy!
